Pressures on ocean systems and the communities that rely on them will increase along with those impacts from the multiple stressors of climate change and human activities.
At the same time, more ocean data has been collected in the last two years than in all previous years combined and we are on a path to continue to break that record!
Our ability to manage and sustain our oceans will not only depend on the data we collect, but also on the information and knowledge derived from it. And for this innovation will be key.
As such, 2020 World Oceans Day has been built around the theme of “Innovation for a sustainable ocean”.
