It is estimated that up to 65% of children entering school today will have a job that does not yet exist. Many of these occupations will be created in STEAM fields, meaning that future positions will require a basic understanding of these areas. It is an astonishing prediction, but could it come true?

Some of today’s most in-demand jobs like Blockchain Engineer, Mobile App Developer, Sustainability Manager, Cloud Computing Specialist or Big Data Analyst did not exist 12 years ago. Fueled by scientific advances and the rapid growth of technology, 21st-century society requires critical skills to address global challenges like climate change.

In order to prepare the next generation for this new work landscape, it’s crucial to invest in children’s STEAM education, particularly girls, by nurturing their knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to thrive in and shape their own future for a more empowered global citizenship.

After last year’s campaign with ARIES female researchers and as we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11, we asked the other half of the ARIES team why STEAM education is so important towards building an inclusive and more sustainable future.
