Soil is a living resource, home to more than 25% of our planet’s biodiversity. The mix of living organisms in the soil (soil biodiversity) is fundamental for our ecosystems’ functioning. However, about 2.8 tonnes of soil are lost per hectare annually in the world.

In order to highlight the increasing biodiversity loss in soils, 2020 World Soil Day has been built around the theme of “Keep soil alive. Protect soil biodiversity.”

In ARIES, we believe that innovation applied to digital soil mapping can help develop valuable knowledge about soil biodiversity and stop land degradation. Check out this video detailing how ARIES contributes to 2020 World Soil Day by assessing sustainable land use.
