On July 20, 2021, from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm CET, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) held a webinar featuring ARIES’ work towards enabling Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR), web-based data and model integration for ocean accounting.

During the online session, moderated by Monica Grasso (NOAA), ARIES representatives Ferdinando Villa (BC3), Ken Bagstad (USGS) and Stefano Balbi (BC3) shared with over 50 attendees an innovative approach for environmental sustainability through semantic web modelling.

Participants had the chance to see a live demo of the ARIES technology’s web interface – k.Explorer –, by using some of the existing models in the platform. Attendees could also witness the main features of the recently launched ARIES for SEEA Explorer – an application for natural capital accounting that could be extended to ocean accounting to support faster, easier, and more consistent compilation of ocean accounts.

The webinar ended with a Q&A session, where participants had the chance to ask and share their insights on the potential application of ARIES for sustainable ocean development. Watch the full video recording of the session below!
