ARIES team members gave an online training session on June 7, 2021 as part of the third Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) Europe Conference. During the two-hour masterclass, modelling experts Ferdinando Villa, Stefano Balbi, Ken Bagstad, Marta Pascual and Zuzana Harmáčková showed ARIES’ innovative approach for environmental sustainability through semantic web modelling to over 60 attendees.
Participants had the chance to see a live demo of the ARIES technology’s web interface – k.Explorer –, by using some of the existing models in the platform. Attendees could also witness the main features of the recently launched ARIES for SEEA Explorer – an easy-to-use tool enabling ecosystem account production anywhere on Earth!
At the end of the training session, experts from the ARIES team facilitated parallel discussions where participants shared their insights regarding ecosystem services, business, Earth observation and modelling communities.
The main points highlighted were the need for more training materials to use k.LAB, how the semantic modelling paradigm can help integrate data and models automatically, and the importance of granting data accessibility to the private sector while granting free use of the ARIES technology to non-profit users, which is at the core of the project’s philosophy.
